Louisiana's Old State Capitol

Help us show off the Old State Capitol by providing an educational experience for tour groups. You will be trained to give a guided tour of our building and exhibits for an adult or school group that schedules a tour with us. Volunteers who sign up to be a touring docent are asked to commit to 1.5 hours to provide a structured tour. Groups are not scheduled on Saturdays, so this position is Tuesday through Friday and as needed.

Louisiana's Old State Capitol is a Museum of Political History located in Baton Rouge LA. The Old State Capitol provides a unique learning experience for visitors of all ages.

  • Touring docents are assigned to groups as needed and are contacted 1-2 weeks in advance of the tour group arrival. Groups are not scheduled on Saturdays, so no Saturday assignments at this time.
  • Touring docents need to be able to project their voice so that the group can hear them clearly. Also need to be mobile as we provide a walking tour, but an elevator is available.
