Event Description: The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, and the Raleigh Police Department want you to show the children and families in your community you support them by recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Month this April!

Volunteer Impact: Pinwheels for Prevention creates awareness of strategies and programs that are proven to prevent child abuse and neglect before they occur! Pinwheels represent the great childhoods that all children deserve.

Volunteer Duties: Become a pinwheel partner and help us plant Pinwheels in Parks on Tuesday, April 2 at 2:30 pm. Volunteers are needed to help plant 200 pinwheels at the following parks:

  • Laurel Hill Park, located at 3808 Edwards Mill Road
  • Optimist Park, located at 5900 Whittier Dr.
    Raleigh, NC 27609
  • John Chavis Memorial Park, located at 505 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard
  • Marsh Creek Park, located at 3050 N New Hope Road, Raleigh, NC 27604

Plan to kickoff your volunteer experience by joining us at 1:15 pm at Nash Square for the Pinwheels in Parks opening ceremony.

Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers will check in with community center staff at the location they registered for and complete a release form prior to volunteering. Volunteers under the age of 18 will need a parent/guardian to accompany them at the project and sign the release form. Staff will provide volunteers with a welcome, pinwheels and instructions to plant pinwheels, and the location in the park to plant.

Special Instructions: Please wear sturdy, closed toed athletic shoes or boots and loose, comfortable clothing you do not mind to get dirty. Additional information will be sent via email to all registered volunteers the week of the event.

Volunteer registration is first come, first served. If you are interested in registering a group please email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov

Per department policies, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed community service hours.
