"SOUL"ACE MUSIC VOLUNTEERS

Everyone has their own unique taste in music. It’s part of who we are. Music in hospice can draw from the patient’s culture, religious beliefs, and cherished memories to create a healing experience that is deeply personal and meaningful. Through music, the "soul" (reason, character, feeling, consciousness, memory, perception, thinking) of a hospice patient can find great "solace" (comfort, support, relief).

MUSIC & TECHNOLOGY - Brings personalized music into the lives of Homeland Hospice patients through digital music technology, vastly improving quality of life. Our trained volunteers create and provide personalized playlists that enable those struggling with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other cognitive and physical challenges to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories.

MUSIC THROUGH VOICE - Employs the use voice to bring comfort and ease to hospice patients and their families. The musicians offer live music at the bedside, responding moment by moment to a patient’s needs, whether they be physical, emotional, psychosocial or spiritual. The music is not a performance, but rather is part of providing comfort and an opportunity to reminisce, complementing the clinical care we offer at Homeland.

MUSIC GROUPS - A small group of singers who sing at the patient’s bedside. May sing as an ensemble at facilities and hospitals and in smaller groups when called to a bedside or a home. Whether as a whole group or in smaller "pods," singers are warm, compassionate, and calmly present as they share their music. All singers must complete the Homeland Hospice volunteer training.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC - Musicians play quiet and soothing music aimed to restore, maintain or improve mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Music can dramatically affect depression, anxiety, anger, fear, frustration, confusion, pain, shortness of breath, social isolation, loneliness, boredom and serve to provide a spiritual connection or fulfill a need for spiritually-based rituals.

Volunteers are required to complete an orientation program which can be done as a self-study in the comfort of your home at your own pace. A background check and 2-step PPD (TB) Test is also required. Any costs are covered by Homeland Hospice.

* Homeland Hospice's office is located in Harrisburg, but serves 14 counties in South Central PA, including: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill and York. Volunteers are able to select where they wish o volunteer, near home or work; facilities or patients homes.

Join our team of staff and volunteers to provide a positive impact on our patients and their families!

* All CDC guidelines are followed and volunteers are educated on conducting safe visits.
