We strive to be a nearly 100% volunteer run organization. By volunteering, you have an enormous impact on the community - particularly in the senior community.

Volunteers can help in a variety of ways in our thrift store including:

  • Greeter - Make someone's day by welcoming them in, showing them our discount wheel and letting them know how their dollars are being used to help local seniors - one of our most important positions!

  • Cashier - This is another vital volunteer role. As a cashier, you have the opportunity to make a wonderful lasting impression on our customers while you offer a free reusable tote for signing up on our VIP email list, explain the benefits of rounding up their purchase and explain how the giving wall works.

  • Bagger - Volunteer baggers help the cashier by wrapping and folding items into our bags

  • Retail Assistant - Our retail assistants keep our retail floor looking neat and tidy by straightening up clothing racks, shelf items, dressing rooms and restocking shelves.

  • Receiving Donations - We rely entirely on donated items - they are a precious as gold! We need volunteers with friendly dispositions and strong backs to help receive donated goods.

  • Donation Sorter - Our sorters help keep our backroom neat and efficient. This role requires a discerning eye to spot the hidden gems, the vintage, and luxury items to be sold online.

  • eCommerce - This is an entire division of the store where we photograph, post and sell items online both locally and nationally.

  • Pricing and Tagging Items - This volunteer tags the items and determines their price - a critical role at the thrift store.

  • Cleaning - Although everyone participates in keeping our stores neat and clean, this volunteer will sweep, mop, dust, sanitize, and clean as needed.

  • Special Events - Love to plan parties and events? We need you! We are always looking for new and fun ways to raise money and to give back to the community.

  • Volunteer Coordinator - The volunteer coordinator is responsible for managing all elements of volunteering. They source and recruit volunteers, arrange for training, assign responsibilities and manage schedules.

Volunteers can also help in our office:

  • Administrative / Office Assistant - Help our executive director, program director, and store operations manager with office duties. This volunteer role will include helping to enter data, organizing files, sending out mailing and thank you letters and other duties as assigned.

Mission Statement

Elder Love USA, Inc. helps older adults and their families by assisting with day-to-day activities. We provide an extra safety net for older adults and their families through comprehensive guidance and access to resources and services. We don’t just give them the information, we will help them get the services they need. We are a new and innovative solution that focuses primarily on helping older adults above the poverty line who do not qualify for help from the county, but who cannot afford to pay for assistance. We provide in home caregiving and social services at a lower rate than most other companies. Our hourly rate to the client varies based on available funds. We make sure that families get the help and support they need and deserve.

Elder Love USA, Inc. was founded by Shannon Shea. Shannon has a masters in gerontological social work and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Gerontology Leadership from Concordia University. During her internship at the Huntington Beach Senior Center, Shannon worked in the case management division. She was able to see first hand how many older adults needed a little extra help around the house with things such as shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry and pet care, but they could not afford to pay a traditional in-home caregiving company. She knew there had to be a better way. She founded Elder Love USA, Inc. in April of 2016 with the goal of provide care at a reduce rate with no minimum hourly requirements. Currently, Elder Love is operating in CA - primarily in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. They are expanding into Arizona - primarily the greater Phoenix area - in April 2019.
