POSITION DESCRIPTION GMHC is a not-for-profit, data-driven, volunteer-supported, and community-based organization committed to national leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We provide HIV prevention and coordinated care services to people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS in New York City.

The Spanish Language Translator would be a certified translator who would assist the Nutrition Department by serving as a translator in program enrollments, reassessments, counseling sessions and groups. The volunteer role might also include assisting with some translation of written communication regarding program activities.

ESSENTIAL VOLUNTEER FUNCTIONS
* The volunteer must be an ATA Certified Translator
* Translator would sit in on program enrollments, reassessments and nutrition counseling sessions providing translation services for Spanish speaking clients.
* Some written translation may also be required, including translation of program materials and communications.

TIME COMMITMENT
5-10 hours per week during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm), to be scheduled by department.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
* HS Diploma or GED required
* Certified Spanish Language Translator

TRAINING
* Volunteer Orientation (1.5 hours)
* Further training will be provided by the department, as necessary.
