About TEDx Seattle

TEDxSeattle is a self-sustaining, non-profit with a license from TED to independently organize a local TED-like event. It’s a 100% volunteer-run organization. TEDxSeattle began in 2010 as TEDxRainier. Over the past seven years, the event has grown from a local audience of just 600 to more than 2,500 participants at our all-day conference held annually at McCaw Hall. In 2015, the organization absorbed a smaller event, TEDxSeattle, and took its name. Today, TEDxSeattle includes our annual November main-stage talks as well as other exciting events that take place around the city throughout the year including TEDxSeattle Salons and TEDxSeattle Adventures .

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with curiosity, a passion for ideas, a talent for organization, and excitement for creating an impact in the community. We want someone who wants to make a difference to our city, our state, the greater Pacific Northwest region and the world we live in.

About the Speaker Liaison role

The Speaker Liaison will work as a member of the greater Speaker Team, comprised of six to eight individuals, and will serve as the central communicator between the TEDxSeattle volunteer teams and the selected speakers. This is an essential role within the organization and requires a person with great organization and task-management skills, empathy, and eagerness to be fully immersed in the TEDxSeattle community. This role works directly with all of the TEDxSeattle volunteer teams, speakers, entertainers, and TEDxSeattle partners to ensure full dissemination of information and logistics throughout the organization.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Communicating between team members, speakers, and community partners via email, phone, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Coordinating details and logistics of all TEDxSeattle events, including the main conference event, speaker announcement events, rehearsals, dinners, and receptions.
  • Gathering, organizing, and disseminating information
  • Working as a part of the Speaker Team to identify and vet potential speakers, select a final speaker lineup, and give feedback on topics, written drafts, and in-person rehearsals.
  • Coordinating and managing back-of-house volunteers leading up to and during the main event in November.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of TED and TEDx talks
  • Strong writing, editing and grammar skills
  • Strong digital organization and inbox-management - you will be sending and receiving a lot of emails
  • Self-directed with an ability to collaborate and thrive in small team environment
  • Able to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Ability to meet weekly in-person or by phone
  • Knowledge of Google Drive helpful

Time commitment

The Speaker Team is at the heart of the TEDxSeattle event, consequently, this role is time-intensive. There will be 90-minute to two-hour team meeting every week until just a few weeks before the November event. Everyone on the Speaker Team is expected to attend the TEDx event.

If selected for the role, you can expect to commit 5-10 hours per week, with the months of September, October, and November as the busiest months. The role lasts for just under a year and preference will go to candidates who are looking to make a longer commitment to help continue shaping the TEDxSeattle event for several years to come.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxSeattle, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxSeattle event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
