Title: Summer Camp Assistant
Department: Education/Curatorial
Reports to: Summer Camp Instructor, Director of Learning & Public Programming
Term: June - August 2019
(Orientation & Training: approx. 4 - 6 hours in June, flexible)
Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm (for full day camps), or 8:30am - 12:30pm (for AM half day
camps), or 12:30 - 5:30pm (for PM half day camps)
Type: Volunteer
Stipend: Weekly stipend of $50 (half day) to $100 (full day) to cover expenses
Camp Weeks (Must be available for 2 weeks minimum)
- June 24 - 28: Under the Sea, Ages 6-8, Full Day
- July 15 - 19: Myths & Magic, Ages 6-8, Full Day
- August 5 - 9: Modern Art Adventures, Ages 9-11, Full Day
- August 12 - 16: Little Artists, Ages 4-5, AM Half Day
- August 12 - 16: Middle School, Ages 11-13, PM Half Day
Bellevue Arts Museum provides a public forum for the community to contemplate, appreciate, and
discuss visual culture. We work with audiences, artists, makers, and designers to understand our
shared experience of the world.
Description
Bellevue Arts Museum is seeking a volunteer classroom assistant to support its summer camp
programs. The volunteer will be responsible for helping to facilitate art projects and camp activities
for children ages 4-13. Throughout the summer, this person will assist the Summer Camp Instructor
and Director of Learning & Public Programming with various tasks related to camps.
Key Duties:
- Prepare art materials and make sample projects
- Greet campers and parents at sign-in/out; ensure sign-in/out procedures followed
- Assist Summer Camp Instructor with explaining and facilitating art projects & other camp games/activities
- Assist with behavior management as needed
- Maintain the organization of classroom and art supplies
- Assist with the creation and distribution of a daily camp newsletter to parents
- Energetic, friendly, and outgoing
- Enthusiasm for working with children in a creative setting
- Patient and reliable
- Team-oriented
- Interest in museum education, K-12 education, or related field
- Teaching, classroom, or camp experience a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher
- Photography knowledge appreciated
