The RESET Room is a safe place for students in recovery from addiction to pause and reset from the stressors unique to recovery. Volunteer Hosts provide a warm and inviting environment by answering questions and building relationships with students. Volunteers also act as a conduit between students and the A-B Tech Counseling Team to ensure students get all the support they need to succeed.
Volunteers certified as Peer Support Specialists are preferred but not required. Volunteers need to understand addiction, its impact on the person and the family, and the disease model of addiction. Volunteers also need to have the ability to maintain strong boundaries, be a good listener, and have knowledge of community resources. Volunteers need to be 21 years of age or older to volunteer at the Cafe.
Volunteers in this role are closely supervised and supported by our A-B Tech Counseling Team and shifts are consistent and regularly scheduled depending on volunteer availability.
For more information on volunteering at A-B Tech visit https://abtech.edu/about/volunteering
All Volunteers are required to maintain a professional relationship with students, staff, and peers, modeling professional interaction and adhere to academic integrity, and privacy guidelines. Volunteers are to model behavior that respects the rights of all people and protects others from abuse by assisting in the creation of an environment free from fear, harassment, gender and racism discrimination or exploitation.
