COVID Note: We will be returning to in-person volunteering in August of 2021. Please see our website for COVID-19 Protocols at the following link https://abtech.edu/COVID.
The RESET Room is A-B Tech's newest endeavor to support the addiction recovery needs of our students. It provides a safe place for students who are in recovery from addiction to pause, not isolate, and reset from the stressors unique to recovery. Closely modeled after the success of our Veterans' Café, the RESET room operates with the support of Volunteer Hosts who provide a warm and inviting environment to help students not to isolate themselves.
Volunteers are present in The RESET room regularly, keeping the space tidy, making coffee, answering questions, and building relationships with students who utilize the room. Although, until recently, only volunteers certified as Peer Support Specialist were considered for this position, the opportunity is now open to other volunteers. Volunteer candidates must have a good understanding of addiction, its impact on the person and the family, and the disease model of addiction, have the ability to maintain strong boundaries, be good listeners, and have knowledge of community resources. Volunteers in this role are closely supervised and supported by our A-B Tech Counseling Team.
