ENOA - Senior Companion Program

  • 1 person is interested

We train volunteers age 55+ to assist seniors in their community so they can maintain independence in their homes. It may be a senior who is lonely and isolated, someone physically or mentally disabled, or someone living with Alzheimer’s disease, Senior Companion volunteers help people in ways true friends help one another. Senior Companions visit the homes of older individuals who can benefit from the company of another older adult. Volunteers visit the same client on a regular weekly basis. They talk with their clients about the news of the day, share stories about one another's family, play cards, read mail, listen to the radio, or perhaps watch T.V or a movie. Some Companions can choose help their clients run errands or go grocery shopping. Others prefer to simply visit and be a friend.

Volunteers earn a small hourly tax free stipend and reimbursement for transportation and meals (none of which can be considered as income and won't effect low income housing, food stamps, homestead exempt or other like benefits). Volunteers earn p.t. time, paid holidays a yearly recognition dinner and other benefits.
