Human Billboards are brand ambassadors/influencers with established or growing social presence and are interested in representing the 501(c)(3) organization at community events and competitions, of their choosing. The programs can be hosted at public venues like the SAP Center which allows signs and banners that comply with the following guidelines:

  • Handheld signs are allowed at SAP Center as long as they are no larger than poster size (20"x30")
  • Banners may be of larger size and may only be hung, so as not to damage any SAP Center surfaces and or obstruct any SAP Center permanent signage
  • The sign must not impair the view of any other guests
  • Information on the sign is not of such that one could construe it as vulgar, offensive or outside of what the community standard considers in "good taste"
  • Dry erase boards and signs attached to sticks or poles are not permitted
  • The sign relates in a positive manner to the event
  • The sign will not obstruct permanent signage
  • Guests may not carry a sign to promote their message on the concourse
  • The sign is not commercial or political in nature
Volunteers will choose from the list http://activitycodes.whomentors.com that aligns with their own interests and local events. Once approved by the CEO, they conduct outreach to their network of supporters and corporate sponsors to request a "qualified sponsorship payment" from any person (including a corporation) engaged in a trade or business with respect to which there is no arrangement or expectation that such person will receive any substantial return benefit other than the use or acknowledgement of the name or logo (or product lines) of such person's trade or business in connection with [your] activities [conducted on behalf] of the organization.

Volunteers may be paid expenses and reasonable benefits such as transportation, event ticket, reasonable meals, and lodging. The revenue will be used to create signs and banners and other promotional items like T-shirts and hats showcasing non-commercial messages such as Ad Council Campaigns, fo example:

In determining whether a [volunteer] has provided services to a particular [501(c)(3)] organization, courts consider the strength of the [volunteer]'s affiliation with the organization, the organization's ability to initiate or request services from the [volunteer], the organization's supervision over the [volunteer]'s work, and the [volunteer]'s accountability to the organization. See, e.g., Smith v. Commissioner, 60 T.C. 988 (1973); Saltzman v. Commissioner, 54 T.C. 722 (1970).
