The West End Museum is a nonprofit neighborhood museum located next to North Station in Downtown Boston. The museum operates in a 4,000 sq ft space: 2 large gallery spaces, an archive room, 3 offices, 3 restrooms and a kitchen. The Facility Manager oversees the upkeep and maintenance of these areas, which are essential for the museum to function.
Time Commitment:
3-4 hours 1 day per week at the museum (volunteer position)
Candidates Should:
- Be punctual
- Be highly organized
- Be able to set up a maintenance schedule
- Be able meet deadlines
- Fair understanding of maintenance systems
- Good cleaning skills (carpet, exhibits, restrooms, kitchen, etc.)
- Some carpentry skills, and an understanding of electrical and plumbing is a plus

The Museum provides a space for past and present residents and the community; educates the public in history and urbanization; and preserves its material history and culture. The Museum seeks to challenge citizens to take an active role in shaping their communities.

About the West End Museum:
We are a Boston neighborhood museum seeking volunteers interested in the history and culture of the City of Boston, its immigrant era, and urban renewal. The Museum is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of the history and culture of the West End of Boston.
You can expect to find a casual workplace of friendly Volunteers and Staff who are welcoming and eager to engage with the public. A previous knowledge of the neighborhood is not required, but an appreciation of its historical significance is helpful.
The Museum is conveniently located close to the MBTA Science Park/West End Station and North Station. Bowdoin Station is about a 10-minute walk.
