Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is dedicated to moments such as these, because it is through these moments our athletes find strength, success, confidence, and joy. The Opening Ceremony Coordinator plays a key role in competitions ensuring that athletes, law enforcement, and volunteers are ready to kick off competitions and celebrate big wins.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit singer for National Anthem and Special Olympic Athlete to say the Athlete Oath
  • Write script for Opening Ceremony
  • Emcee or recruit emcee
  • Be the stage manager for the Opening Ceremony
  • Coordinate with Torch Run coordinator when applicable (Note, not all events have torch run)
  • Greet, thank, and orient day-of Opening Ceremony volunteers prior to their shift
  • Lead day-of volunteer team in staging and executing Opening Ceremony Parade of Athletes

  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • • We offer several sport competition. Spring: Swim, Track, Basketball, Bocce and Flag Football. Fall: Tennis, Golf Summer: Bowling • Role is needed for all games, multi-year commitment is preferred to maximize the leadership and coordination
  • • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to correspond through email and participate in Ceremonies team calls • Customer service skills • Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and under deadlines
