Do you have a flair for fashion? Share your creative talents and retail "know-how" to help us empower communities and change lives.
ThriftWORKS, a social enterprise of the Urban League of Essex County, turns donated items into second chances for individuals striving to better their lives. The proceeds from our thrift store go to support badly needed programs for children, seniors and opportunity youth from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds.
We're looking for volunteers to help make our thrift store boutiques a success. If you've got retail experience, or are interested in the retail and fashion industry, this is a great opportunity for you!
Flexible hours are available, fun environment, and of course, we will train you in everything you need to know about ThriftWORKS. There are many ways you can help, including:
Creating creative window and store displays
Customer Service
Stocking shelves / racks
Helping with donation pickups
Loading / unloading donation trucks
Pricing inventory
Sales floor / Store clerk
Cashier
Online sales platform content
Social media/blogging
Organizing the boutique and warehouse

The Urban League of Essex County's initiatives focus on:
Education and Youth Development
We strive to ensure that children have the skills required to fully participate in the 21st century economy. Our pre-school and enrichment programs offer math-rich environments to promote problem solving and critical thinking.
Employment and Job Readiness
We increase the capacity of job-seekers to attain sustainable employment and career paths through counseling, skills training, job placement and case management.
We also provide critically needed assistance to individuals with multiple barriers to employment, including low-skilled, reentry and mature workers.
Housing Assistance and Counseling
We provide information, education, and were necessary - emergency assistance for working families. Our programs support wealth-building and reinvestment in neighborhoods and urban communities, focusing on financial literacy, home ownership, and foreclosure prevention.
Community Building and Advocacy
We promote civic engagement and leadership development to empower residents to have an active role in determining the direction of public policy and other initiatives that affect the quality of life in their local communities.

REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 16
- Orientation or Training
- We offer flexible hours between 9AM and 7PM, but ask that you are able to volunteer for a minimum of 3 - 4 hours at a time. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity.
- Boutique volunteers should be able to stand for periods of three hours. Warehouse and donations loaders should be able to lift 50 pounds.
