Cashier Volunteer Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Cashier volunteers are an important part of the work of the Mansfield Mission Center (MMC) Thrift Store. They work directly with many diverse people who live in the Mansfield community, and it’s their job to create a friendly and helpful atmosphere, to ensure that sales are processed properly, and to keep the store clean and well-organized. By volunteering their time as cashiers, they help the store to keep its prices as low as possible, which helps the Thrift Store fulfill its goal of providing the people in our community with access to the things that they need at prices they can afford.

Detailed instructions are given at each new assignment. As the volunteer becomes familiar with procedures, after three trainings more unsupervised judgment and decision making duties are given. Performances will be reviewed as needed by the MMC Thrift Store Sales Associates.

RESPONSIBILITES

• Greet arriving customers
• Assist customers with any store questions
• Assist other volunteers as needed
• Follow established procedures for customer sales
• Respond to customer inquiries
• Maintain a clean and organize environment
• Operate sales counter
• Operate cash register to document merchandise sales

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be comfortable handling money and operating cash register
• Must be people-oriented, flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to advocate the mission of Mansfield Mission Center
• Must have professional demeanor and remain friendly and polite when faced with difficult customer situations
• Must possess the ability to plan, organize and handle multiple functions simultaneously and communicate clearly and courteously, both verbally and in writing
• Store organizational and interpersonal skills are required

SCHEDULE

• 6 months - 1 year commitment. We know you will want to continue after you get to know us!

DAILY DETAILS

• Minimum 1 day per week for 2 hours. Store hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

TRAINING PROVIDED

• On-site training is provided and consists of an orientation, review of the Volunteer Manual, and hands-on training in action. A follow-up buddy system can be provided upon request until no further assistance is needed. On-going supervision and training will be provided as needed.
