ORGANIZATION: Satellite Affordable Housing Associates

In December 2012, Satellite Housing and Affordable Housing Associates merged to create SAHA, an organization dedicated to providing quality, service-enriched affordable housing to East Bay residents.

Help elders get out of their apartments and socialize with their neighbors by calling BINGO. BINGO is a way to be around others without demanding conversation. It is also a great way for speakers of different languages to come together through play, and competition. It is also one of the most popular activities at our site.
Volunteer to call BINGO for low income seniors living at Merritt Crossing in Downtown Oakland! We are looking for a volunteer to call BINGO for an hour a week. The volunteer will facilitate BINGO games, socialize with residents and then straighten up afterwards.

Requirements: Ongoing SAHA Community Volunteers must commit to volunteer every other week on Wednesday, 1-3pm for a minimum of 4 months, and must complete a volunteer orientation, volunteer forms and background screening prior to beginning their placement.

Description

The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
