The success of Autism Speaks Walk depends on the dedication and support of its volunteers. Volunteers assist in many capacities - checking in participants, providing encouragement at water stops and cleaning up after the event which in turn reduces event costs and drives more funds directly to the mission. You can recruit friends, family and coworkers to form a volunteer team!

GREETER VOLUNTEERS

Description: Volunteers assigned to be greeters will be located at the entrance of the park from the parking lot. They will be responsible for directing all participants to the appropriate area, answer questions as they arise, and contact staff if items arrive for drop off.

CHECK-IN & NEW REGISTRATION

Description: Volunteers assigned to check-in will be responsible for welcoming participants, registering those who have not registered and collecting any day of donations. All money donations should be kept in an envelope that will be collected by the check-in captain. Check-in volunteers should let participants know when they are ready for the next participant to register by raising their blue puzzle piece. After check-in is finished, volunteers are responsible for cleaning up all materials and handing in completed forms to Autism Speaks staff. For those walkers who have not registered yet, they will have the option to fill out a registration form at a separate table before entering the check in tent. Volunteers will be stationed there to assist with managing the onsite registration area, answer any questions regarding filling out registration forms, and collect all forms after check in is finished.

KIDS ZONE

Description: Volunteers assigned to the Kids Zone area will be responsible for supervising over the photo booth and the arts and crafts tables. Making sure the area is well stocked, organized, and managed as needed. The area will include bubbles, crafts and coloring stations as well as a photo booth. You may be asked to act as the photo booth photographer if needed (camera will be provided). Please be sure to assist with any line formations and directing participants to activities within the Kids Zone.

Mission Statement

At Autism Speaks, our goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. We are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. We are committed to raising the funds necessary to support these goals. Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. It is our firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle. Autism Speaks. It's time to listen.

Description

A new child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes. For all the children and families stricken by this disorder -- and all those who will be -- the time to act is now.

Your volunteer efforts will help us as we raise funds for research studies that will help find a cure. With your support, we will transform a community of heartbreak into a community of hope.
