Of our 60 elderly residents at Arvada Care and Rehabilitation, the majority don't receive ANY visitors. This can leave a human being feeling a little low, as you might imagine. We are looking for volunteers to come to the center a few times a month and visit our loneliest residents in their room to do simple hand massages and provide some friendly conversation. For this position, we are looking for women to give hand massages to other women. What does 'simple hand massage' mean? You would have a variety of good-smelling lotions with you, and you and resident could first pick out a scent that she liked. Then essentially, you would just take your time and rub the lotions into her hands and lower arms, and chat about this and that as you do it. All of our application/orientation/training is online, so you can begin volunteering in about a week. A background check is required for this position, and there is a $20 fee for that. You will do your first couple hand massages along with an activities staff member so that you can watch them do it first before you jump in. :) Please consider bringing some human touch and connection to our loneliest seniors!
