Treasurer Job Description

Duties:

  • Receives and records all income for the rescue after it is picked up from the post office or collected from events and is deposited by the secretary or a designated board member
  • Records PayPal transactions
  • Pays all bills for the rescue
  • Maintains accounting records in a timely manner (enters deposits, contributions, and expenses into accounting software)
  • Maintains chart of accounts in accounting software
  • Prepares and provides the board with monthly and annual reports (Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, and Statement of Cash Flow)
  • Prepares and provides Board President with monthly bank reconciliation for review
  • Prepares and files all legal and financial forms and reports with various government agencies as needed (ie: IRS Form 990, Secretary of State Annual Filing, Sales and Use Tax, Amendments of Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws)
  • Prepares and submits annual insurance renewal
  • Works with board to create annual budget
  • Oversees Vetting Coordinator
  • Pays veterinary bills and manages invoices
  • Helps determine and approve intake of dogs with medical conditions
  • Approves tests and treatments up to $750
  • Brings veterinary costs over $750 to board for approval

Requirements:

  • Accounting degree and experience a necessity and nonprofit experience preferred
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Needs to have internet and phone access on a daily basis
  • Available to check email at least twice a day, unless other circumstances prevent this such as vacations, internet service out, etc.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Time commitment approximately 40+ hours a month

Mission Statement

MISSION STATEMENT Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes. Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, sterilized, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heart worm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever. UMGDR is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization and all donations to the rescue are tax deductible.

Description

How we achieve our mission:
FOSTER:
Provide a safe, loving home for the dog to heal from past traumas, gets needed veterinary attention and good food. Many of these dogs will need intense one on one to overcome past traumas. Each dog is different and will need different care and training.

TRANSPORT: Pick up the dog and transport it to the foster home. We cover all of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas. The transportation coordinator will contact transport volunteers when they are needed. A Dane Train will be set up so many volunteers may be needed for a transport so no one will have to be on the road for hours on end.

HOME VISITS: A home visit is done on each applicant before a Dane is placed with them. This entails visiting with the applicant at their home, observing the environment, both physical and emotional, and determining if this is a suitable home for the Dane. Different Danes will have different needs in what constitutes a proper home for them.

FUNDRAISING:
Join a team of volunteers that plan and organize events to raise funds for the organization. As a non-profit organization we are solely funded by donations. Without those donations the organization cannot pay for the medical expenses each dane needs.
