** IN ORDER TO REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER FOR THIS EVENT, YOU MUST EMAIL MARY.OWENS@RALEIGHNC.GOV AND SHE WILL SEND YOU THE REGISTRATION LINK.**

Event Description: Mud day will involve fun activities which connect children to nature, mud, education on wetlands, history of Walnut Creek Wetland Center, and the center's connection to the social justice movement started by Partners for Environmental Education. Mud Day was the NC Recreation and Parks Association's 2018 Innovative Program winner. Food Trucks will be available, also. You may sign up for multiple shifts for extra volunteer hours.

Volunteer Duties:
Setup and Breakdown - Volunteers for setup or breakdown. Setup will involve carrying materials to their stations. Breakdown will involve bringing tables, chairs, and event materials back to the building.

Station Volunteers - Station volunteers may be asked to ensure safety at obstacle course stations, assist children with crafts, tattoos, fort building, soil painting, etc. A few volunteers will work in the volunteer canteen wiping down tables and ensuring adequate supply of snacks and beverages for volunteers. 20 minute lunch breaks will be worked in to the shifts.

Volunteer Impact: Mud Day could not run without dedicated volunteers! Participating in Mud Day means contributing to a child's physical, emotional and social well-being. Children are born to get messy, as part of their normal child development, and this event lets kids know that it is okay to get dirty and messy (and it's a whole lot of fun, too!)

Work Environment: A few volunteers will be stationed indoors or within the deck area. Most volunteers will be outside in the parking lot area or along the greenway. A handful of volunteers will be assigned a station in the woods to monitor obstacle course stations. Sunscreen, bug spray, water, and canteen refreshments will be available to all volunteers. There will be restrooms on site. There will be food trucks onsite as well.

Volunteer Requirements: All volunteers must 14 years of age or older. Those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent. All volunteers under 18 years of age must have a volunteer release signed by their parent or guardian. Adult volunteers must also sign a waiver.

Special Instructions: Volunteers should dress for the outdoors, and for the possibility of getting messy, wet or muddy (ponchos, rain jackets, work clothes, etc.). Volunteers should bring a refillable water bottle. Snacks will be available in the volunteer canteen. Come ready to share lots of smiles!

Group Registration Information: Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. If you are interested in registering as a group, please use the "Register as a Group" button. You will then need to email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov the names of the volunteers from your organization who plan on attending. This is to ensure groups are not reserving spots that they do not have actual volunteers for.

Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
