PURPOSE: To assist the DMRS Development Coordinator in all aspects of volunteer and intern coordination.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Become familiar with all aspects of DMRS
  • Help with the assessment of volunteer/intern needs of DMRS
  • Assist DMRS Development Coordinator with volunteer/intern position descriptions
  • Post volunteer/intern position descriptions to appropriate websites and social media
  • Support the DMRS Development Coordinator with recruitment, orientation, placement, follow-up, appreciation and evaluation of DMRS volunteers and interns
  • Develop a Volunteer/Intern Manual
  • Create a PowerPoint/other electronic volunteer/intern orientation presentation
  • Research grant/corporate possibilities for further volunteer involvement at DMRS
  • Generate draft proposals for further volunteer involvement at DMRS
  • Initiate, plan and execute volunteer/intern appreciation days, events or other means of appreciation
  • Other duties as necessary

Description

Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services, Inc. (DMRS), is the largest provider of free and low cost immigration legal services in West Texas and New Mexico. DMRS provides a comprehensive range of immigration legal services including representation in family-based immigration matters, Citizenship/Naturalization matters, matters related to benefits for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes, removal proceedings before the Immigration Courts, refugee resettlement services, and services for adults and unaccompanied immigrant children detained in the local immigration detention centers and shelters. DMRS has been serving the immigrant community since 1986.

  • 10-20 hours per week
  • General DMRS training with DMRS Development Coordinator and position specific training. All volunteers/ interns must undergo a free background check and free Safe Environments Training. All volunteers must have either a laptop or tablet with keyboard
