The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
ACS provides patient services, education, and advocacy on cancer-related issues. In addition, the Society raises funds for cancer-related research. Fundraising events include Relay For Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and the Portland Hope Ball. The American Cancer Society is the largest private, nonprofit source of cancer research funding in the world, and has invested millions in cancer research in Oregon.
