We are currently recruiting for our upcoming fall programs and need you to reach our goal of 100+ mentors serving 100+ kids!

Art Buddies pairs creative mentors with Twin Cities kids from our highest need communities to help them discover creative abilities, believe in themselves, and dream of a brighter future. We partner with urban elementary schools, Our after-school programs are provided free for students ages 8-11. Programs occur every fall and spring semesters and we aim to recruit 100+ mentors for 100 kids.

Our creative mentors come from all sorts of professional fields, including advertising, architecture and design, as well as students. Anyone interested in creativity, working with kids and art is welcome! Any kind adult can mentor , no artistic skills are required

Mentors share their time and talents to help children take pride in who they are, what they can do, and who they can become through the power of creativity. Each volunteer works one-on-one with their child in a room of 20+ other buddy pairs, which is so important - and so rare. Kids thrive on the one-on-one attention our mentors provide, confidence improves and creativity thrives!

About Art Buddies

Location:

110 North Fifth Street, Floor 10, Minneapolis, MN 55403, US

Mission Statement

Art Buddies is a creative program for inner-city kids. We believe in the power of creativity and one-on-one attention to change children’s lives. Art Buddies, a program of the nonprofit Creatives for Causes, pairs creative mentors from advertising and design with children from low-income families in Minneapolis. We help the kids discover their creative gifts, believe in themselves and dream big dreams. We help them create something fanciful, unique and more ambitious than they may have imagined, then celebrate that achievement in an exciting parade. The children feel joy and pride in their success, and we love helping them succeed!

Description

Art Buddies empower underprivileged to discover their creative abilities while building confidence and big dreams. We pair each child one-on-one with a special creative mentor. Many of our volunteers come from professional creative fields such as advertising, architecture and design.

We partner with qualifying elementary schools in the Twin Cities. Students who attend our partner schools are able to enroll in Art Buddies as a free after-school offering.

At every program, creative volunteers work one-on-one with their child. The kids are amazed that they each get their own adult. One boy told us, "Art Buddies is cool, cuz you get your own person!"

Our workshops last from 7 to 10 weeks, with up to 40 mentors helping up to 40 kids at each school to create an imaginative and unique costume that reflects the child's interests, strengths and dreams.

Through the creative process, children take pride in who they are, what they can do, and who they can become through the power of creativity.
