Many Harris Health System patients must choose between medication for themselves or food for their families in a no-win scenario that frustrates care providers and patients alike. To address this critical need, Harris Health is partnering with Houston Food Bank programs to open onsite Food Farmacies at select health centers, the first of their kind in Texas. These Food Farmacies help us address food insecurity, which is the lack of reliable access to enough nutritious food.
Why We Need Your Help
These roles are typically working to provide service directly to our patients and are often in need of assistance with additional duties throughout the Food Farmacy. Our volunteers in the Food Farmacy typically assist with the following:
- Receipt of food deliveries by unloading, stocking, and sorting through food items.
- Inspecting food for signs of rot or damage and discarding poor quality items.
- Weighing and bagging food items for curbside delivery.
- Lifting up to 10 lbs
