Ace Monster Toys is a nonprofit whose community thrives because of its volunteers. Tours, community events, and many of our classes are led by volunteers. Maintenance and improvements of tools and facilities are powered by volunteers and member donations. When new members join the organization, they learn about the community culture and expectations to take part in volunteer projects. In short, we have a community built around volunteerism with many enthusiastic members who are happy to offer their time and expertise. The Volunteer Coordinator (VC) will fill a very important role in providing the vision and organization necessary to determine what needs to get done and connecting volunteers to make the work happen.

The VC provides leadership in setting the culture for the organization. They communicate the org's mission, vision and values to the membership and make decisions in line with AMT's culture. The VC promotes volunteerism as a solution to challenges. They assess and collate org needs and get feedback on what members want and are willing to work on. Once projects have been identified, the VC figures out what needs to get done and pairs people with it.

The VC coordinates with stewards and other volunteer program/project leaders, as well as recruiting volunteers directly. They are responsible for teaching volunteers by coordinating resources and training, and by providing institutional knowledge and systems. They structure and oversee large one-time projects, recurring events such as the annual clutter purge, and repeating events such as the weekly tour.

An applicant interested in the VC position should have demonstrated management and organization skills. This role provides an opportunity to create processes that forward the org's vision and values, and any applicant should be passionate about the org goals. As a position that specifically focuses on member involvement, the VC applicant should love working with people, be skilled at encouraging volunteerism, and be comfortable handling interpersonal conflict. The VC applicant should have an interest in being knowledgeable about the different spaces and invested in helping the org grow and create a sustainable volunteer culture.
