Volunteer as a Dispatch Specialist for Local and Regional Disasters

ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Southeastern Pennsylvania Region

  • Responsibilities

    -Respond to requests for disaster assistance by Fire and Police Departments and other local municipal and agency officials via telephone. Notify the appropriate management, staff and volunteer personnel as determined by the Chapter Notifications.
    - Serve as the communications contact, and technical support for ARC personnel responding to or at disaster sites.

    -Facilitate the issuance of direct assistance to disaster clients.
    - Gather and compile information pertinent to disaster responses
    - Willingness to support Red Cross Mission

  • Time Commitment
    • As available, preferred at least one six hour shift weekly, can be daytime, evening and or weekend for as long as the willingness to support Red Cross Mission can be provided.

  • Qualifications
    • Writing and communications skills
    • Strong Computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office
    • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated oral (including phone) and written communication skills
    • Positive work attitude
    • Strong customer service skills
  • Length of Appointment Ongoing
  • Development Opportunities

    Experience how the Red Cross responds throughout the disaster cycle, including preparedness, response, and recovery.

    Also experience non-disaster lines of service in the Red Cross, including Health and Safety, Service to the Armed Forces, International Services, Public Relations, and Financial Development.

  • Purpose Assist Red Cross with emergency communications services in the form of monitoring, coordinating and providing emergency communications/services to disaster clients during disaster responses and to provide information and referral services to Red Cross callers.
