Camp Rainbow Gold is looking for cabin counselors interested in spending a week in July in the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains near Sun Valley, Idaho helping to create emotionally empowering experiences for Idaho children diagnosed with cancer and their families.
Camp Rainbow Gold is an Idaho-based nonprofit that provides free programs for children who have been diagnosed with cancer, including five annual camps. These camps are structured like most summer camps in that they provide the opportunity for the campers to engage in activities they might not otherwise be able to such as archery, mountain biking, and rafting. The main difference is that each camp has a nursing team and physician in attendance to address any medical concern that might arise and assure the safety of each camper and that every camper in attendance may be able to relate to each other through what might be similar experiences facing cancer - creating an atmosphere where the campers don’t have to worry if everyone is wondering why their head might be shaved, or why they have a scar and can instead focus on just being a kid at camp.
We need cabin counselors who can lead a group of 8 children with the help of two other counselors through the week-long camp and will:
- Create a team dedicated to enhancing the camp experience of each camper.
- Create a positive and nurturing atmosphere that helps campers have a smooth adjustment to camp.
- Assist with all cabin and camp wide activities.
- Plan and participate in daily cabin activities.
- Monitor campers for any sign of fever, other illness, or extreme fatigue.
All volunteers must:
- Attend the full week of the one camp they are assigned.(Three total camps occur over the course of July)
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Provide their own transportation.
It’s a rewarding position that allows you to bring your own voice and talents to the benefit of children that may be going through a hard time in their lives. If you are interested in applying or in learning more about this position or other ways to get involved with Camp Rainbow Gold email CRG’s volunteer coordinator Benton Smith at Benton@camprainbowgold.org or call 208-350-6435. 216 W Jefferson St
