Committee Purpose

The purpose of the Veterans Build committee is to manage the Veterans Build program, in order to engage and serve the veteran and military community in Habitat’s overall mission (to serve low-income families of Snohomish County through affordable homeownership and to allow veterans to continue serving through volunteerism).

Volunteer & Committee Responsibilities

  • Conduct local outreach to promote the Veterans Build program, develop new partnerships and recruit volunteers
  • Update veteran contact list when new partnerships are obtained (Google sheets)
  • Manage Veterans Build correspondence (email), determining which emails should be answered directly by committee and which should be forwarded to the appropriate supporting staff member
  • Assist Family Services Committee in candidate search for Veterans Build family selections (when applicable)
  • Connect new volunteers with Volunteer Engagement Manager
  • Plan and host events for veterans and service members
  • Seek the support of office staff where and when needed (e.g. if you find a veteran-focused grant, contact the resource development manager)

Committee Goals

The committee as a whole will be dedicated to the following goals:

  • Recruit volunteers to increase number of unique volunteers from veteran and military community by 10% yearly
  • Hold at least one veteran-focused event (annually)
  • Recruit at least two veteran homeowner candidates for designated Veterans Builds (when applicable)
  • Develop a Veterans Critical Home Repair program by the end of 2019

Time Commitment

  • Attend one monthly meeting (date and time TBD): 1 hour/month
  • Conduct local outreach: 1-3+ hours/month (may vary depending on availability and desire)
  • Plan and execute the yearly event: 5-10+ hours/month, in the months leading up to event

Preferred Skills/Abilities

  • Veteran/military background, experience working with veterans/service members, or desire to get involved in a veteran/military-focused initiative
  • Project/program management experience a plus
  • Outreach, public engagement/speaking experience a plus
  • Familiarity with affordable housing initiatives a plus
  • Event planning experience a plus

Committee Members Needed: 4-6 people
