Literacy Volunteers of Kanawha County is an all volunteer organization that provides free, one-on-one tutoring for adults and children in Kanawha County. We have partnered with Cabin Creek Health in Dawes, as well as UKV Turning Points to start one of the only after school programs in Eastern Kanawha County. This is a pilot program in which students will be given homework help from teachers, crafts and physical activities by the Clinic staff, and one on-one reading and writing intervention for a portion of students who have been identified as high need. This is the role that an RSVP member can fill! Prior to starting, LVKC will provide a background check and training, as well as resources for the sessions with the students online and in person. We are looking for patient and motivated individuals who are invested in improving the academic achievement of kids in an underserved area!

Make a Difference in Your Community!
RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
