Term: May 2019 - August 2019
Hours: 10-15 hours a week; full day commitments are required for the dates of
Artful Evening (June 29th) and ARTSfair (July 25th - 28th); more hours will be
needed in the weeks leading up to these events as well.
Compensation: Experience and/or College Credit only

Bellevue Arts Museum provides a public forum for the community to contemplate, appreciate, and
discuss visual culture. We work with audiences, artists, makers, and designers to understand our
shared experience of the world.

DESCRIPTION
Bellevue Arts Museums is seeking an individual for an internship in the Special Events & Volunteers
Department. This person would primarily assist in preparing for BAM’s two largest annual events:
Artful Evening and BAM ARTSfair. The Special Events & Volunteer Intern will actively work with the
Director of Special Events & Volunteers and the Volunteer Coordinator with recruiting, processing,
scheduling, preparing for, and training volunteers. They will also need to be on-site to lead and
manage volunteers, and assist in setting up and tearing down the events. The Special Events &
Volunteer Intern must be comfortable taking on a leadership role amongst peers, and be comfortable
managing people ranging in ages from 14 to elderly. This position is well-suited for individuals
interested in special events, volunteer management, and museums. Days and times are flexible, but
availability on at least two or three days of the week consistently is recommended.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and update Artful Evening and ARTSfair volunteer outreach lists
  • Conduct community outreach to recruit volunteers for Artful Evening and ARTSfair
  • Assist in processing volunteer applications and maintain accurate records in volunteer database
  • Research and help develop volunteer activities and tasks for ARTSfair
  • Aid in donation procurement for volunteer appreciation
  • Help organize and coordinate Artful Evening and ARTSfair materials for volunteers (including training packets, t-shirts, etc.)
  • Be onsite during and provide additional support for Artful Evening and BAM ARTSfair
  • Act as a lead onsite with the Director of Special Events & Volunteers and the Volunteer Coordinator for volunteers during Artful Evening and ARTSfair
  • Help lead volunteer orientation sessions
  • Be the lead for volunteer projects for prepping event materials
  • Assist in maintaining museum equipment such as wine glasses, water glasses, serving platters, linens, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Organized with great attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Associates degree or comparable education or experience (background in art, art history, museology, special events, and/or management experience is a plus)
  • Experience working with volunteer databases (Volgistics or similar program) a plus, but not required
  • Must be available from May through early- August, 2019
  • Must be available for Artful Evening on Saturday, June 29th and ARTSfair weekend, July 25th - 28th
