OUR ORGANIZATION
The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center(PCRC) is a nonprofit communication and dispute resolution organization. We are dedicated to helping clients solve their most complex personal, organizational, and social challenges. Our collaborative philosophy largely builds on an interest-based approach to conflict resolution. Through our initiatives, we engage the community and we empower youth through dialogues, trainings, and conflict resolution coaching.

PCRC recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to provide an array of community engagement services. PCRC is committed to building a strong coalition of volunteers from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

OUR NEED
PCRC is looking for volunteers to facilitate small group conversations with community members about housing issues and possible solutions. The conversations will take place in the Spring and Fall of 2019 and will be held in the following cities: San Mateo, Brisbane, Pacifica, Foster City and Hillsborough.

No facilitation experience is necessary, but it is an asset if you have it!

First orientation will be on February 4th, 2019 from 6-7pm. Training will begin in February and dialogues are expected to begin in March/April. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to make an impact on their community and develop meeting management skills!

Volunteers will need to:

  • Participate in a facilitation training.
  • Feel comfortable speaking to a group.
  • Take notes and collect feedback.
  • Remain neutral in occasionally contentious discussions.
  • Be flexible and ready to lead with humility.

To apply, please fill out our Volunteer Inquiry Form on our website https://www.pcrcweb.org/get-involved/ . In response to the last question on the form, please indicate that you are applying to be a "Small Group Facilitator for Housing". If you have questions, please contact mrodriguez@pcrcweb.org.

PCRC is an equal opportunity agency and makes decisions on the basis of merit. We want to have the best available person in every position, paid or unpaid. Our policy prohibits discrimination made unlawful by federal, state or local laws. In addition, PCRC is striving to become an organization that reflects the demographic makeup of the community we serve.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC) is to promote positive collaboration and active engagement by residents in the communities we serve. To accomplish this mission, PCRC trains people to communicate and solve problems together, facilitates group meetings, builds skills for public participation and, as a neutral third party, assists people in conflict to develop mutually acceptable agreements.

Description

The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC), founded in 1986, is a public benefit corporation serving individuals, groups, and organizations throughout San Mateo County. We provide conflict prevention, management, and resolution services and promote the use of non-adversarial processes in a wide variety of situations. PCRC services empower people, build relationships, and reduce violence. As the major provider of community-based conflict management and prevention services in San Mateo County, PCRC can put its experience to work for you. Our small professional staff supports nearly 200 trained volunteers from many ethnic, social, educational and vocational backgrounds who serve as mediators, facilitators and communication trainers. Through its mediation programs, PCRC staff and volunteers help clients identify problems, clarify perspectives and concerns, develop viable options, and reach durable and mutually satisfactory agreements. As the result of PCRC's outreach and training efforts, more and more people are recognizing the value of collaborative approaches to working through complex situations and developing workable agreements.
