PENNIES FOR POVERTY 2 CENTS 4 CHANGE INC
Join the group of people who deliver groceries from the Newbury Food Pantry to shut ins and others who work during regular pantry hours. We call to get their shopping lists, shop at the pantry before it opens and then deliver to their homes. We also provide transportation to/from the pantry for those who cannot otherwise get there. This is an all-volunteer pantry that is very welcoming to both volunteers and clients.
The Pantry is open from 2:30-5 every Friday (except holidays and when schools are closed for weather) and shop/delivery volunteers are needed from roughly 1:30-5 on Fridays. We also need volunteers to come to the pantry about 5 pm on Fridays to pick up items that won't last until the next pantry day. We take these items the following morning (7-7:30 am) to a pantry in Amesbury that is open on Saturday.
We would like volunteers to help out once or twice a month and/or to get oriented and then be on a substitute list so we can call on them when the regular shift person cannot make it.
We are also aware of a pantry in Newburyport that would like to offer delivery service. Their hours are on Thursday from 10-2. So if Friday doesn't work for you but Thursday would, let us know.
You would need to use your own car and cell phone and be able to comfortably carry bags of groceries.

Pennies for Poverty is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization whose mission is to ease the impact of poverty on the people of Greater Newburyport by endorsing models of assistance that promote dignity, supporting allied organizations both financially and collaboratively, increasing community awareness of poverty through citizen education, and inspiring and encouraging volunteerism.
Pennies for Poverty, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was founded in 2008 with the belief that if everyone in the community does a little to help those in need, we can substantially reduce poverty and improve the well being of all members of the community. The original mantra for the organization was "2 Cents, 2 Cans, 2 Hours, Together." That is, everyone should put aside 2 cents a day and 2 cans a week and volunteer 2 hours a month so that together we reduce poverty.
We'll work with your schedule.
