We are looking for a female volunteer to mentor a 15-year-old female refugee youth from Myanmar who is currently living with a foster family in Rockford. This youth has been in the same licensed-unrelated foster home since her arrival and has thrived in the home. She is a 1st year student at Rockford High School and is very involved in extra-curricular activities. She also tutors weekly and is currently taking Life Skills classes at Bethany's office.

This youth is quiet at first, and it takes a little bit for her to open up. However, once you get on a topic she likes, she can be pretty chatty. She would like to be a gym teacher in the future. Her likes include golf, soccer (sports in general-will be trying out for tennis), museums, shopping, music, crafty things, sushi, Thai food. She dislikes science classes in particular.

This youth grew up in a refugee camp in Thailand and was raised by her grandmother who has a chronic illness. Because of this, the youth was assessed by the United Nations and granted unaccompanied refugee minor status and arrived in Grand Rapids in July of 2016.
