Home Repair Volunteer Program
Critical home repair is a growing need all over the country and especially in Tucson. As the need for affordable repairs increases, so does HFHT’s need for skilled volunteers. By volunteering with HFHT’s Home repair program you will improve the health, safety and accessibility of the property and help make someone’s house a home again.
Home Repairs are done in preexisting homes that range in conditions. No two repair projects are alike and HFHT is greatly in need of experienced volunteers can provide quality repairs and who understand the sensitivities of working in someone’s home. Repairs will be completed under the guidance and supervision of the Home Repair Supervisor and volunteers will undergo training to not only expand their skills and construction knowledge but also prepare them for the uniqueness of home repair.
HFHT is looking for volunteers who have the following experience. Not all experience is needed as volunteers will be assigned projects based on skill, but some experience is required:
- Professional or personal experience in home renovations/ home repairs
- Minor plumbing repairs (ex. Sink snaking, toilet replacement etc.)
- Minor electrical trouble shooting (ex. GFCI’s)
- Drywall work
- Carpentry
- Patience and sensitivity
All volunteers will be required to complete the following before engaging in repairs:
- Background check conducted by HFHT
- Volunteer liability waiver
- An interview with the Home Repair Supervisor to determine skill level and expertise
- OSHA 10 training provided by HFHT (or proof of previous completion)
- Home Repair Program Training by Home Repair Supervisor
