Like many non-profit organizations, the Houston Masterworks Chorus (HMC) is diligently working to establish new systems, technologies, and procedures to ensure the longterm prosperity of the organization. Recent successes have positioned the organization on a very positive trajectory, but we need the help of enthusiastic and skilled volunteers to further support our growth.

Through the years, HMC has been the grateful recipient of many grants, whose funds have supported many goals of the chorus. Currently the chorus is the recipient of grants from the Houston Arts Alliance, Wortham Foundation, Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation, Humphreys Foundation, as well as many private donors. However, HMC continues to operate on a very prudent budget, cautious to spend funds judiciously.

Thus, our funding we need help finding grants. There will always be a need for event-specific underwriting, monies to fund operations, and subsidies to support employee salaries.

This is where you come in. With the help of our grants committee, we need a few volunteers identify the areas in which we can use funding, determine the best grants to apply for, and complete the time-consuming applications using the content we provide to you.

We want this to be the best experience possible for our volunteers, so to begin, we'll start with a quick and informal phone interview to get to know you and identify how we can help YOU get the most of your experience.

Volunteers can work during the daytime or evening, with task lists clearly outlining prioritized projects and deadlines. For the majority of projects, you can set your own pace and schedule.

Mission Statement

A choral community celebrating and connecting people through the power of music inspiring, uplifting, and educating. Performing diverse masterworks, showcasing new compositions and talent, and moving people out of their ordinary.

Description

Attracting singers from across the globe, we invite you to make Houston Masterworks Chorus your destination.

Join us in singing, giving, and sharing our vision and mission:

The global pandemic has changed everything. The virtual world of recording is a platform linking people through the power of the human voice. We now have the ability to reach more people, to expand our audience, and to share the gift of making music together.

We welcome the challenge to use our creativity, flexibility, and here’s our plan.

We will:

  • Produce virtual concerts with new singers and new partners locally, nationally and internationally
  • Invite professionals to provide online education to enhance our skills and knowledge
  • Partner with non-profit arts organizations such as Ad Deum Dance Company, Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra, Blinn College District Chamber Choir, Houston soloists and local composers
  • We will seek out underserved communities that reflect Houston’s diverse cultures: Worthing High School, Equal Opportunity for Women in Prison Choir (EWOPTX.org), Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP.org)
  • Develop school choral programs to seed our future

The chorus is a community of volunteers, run by volunteers with the goal of creating quality, heartfelt music. We invite you to become involved.
