The Omaha Film Festival is searching for volunteers to work with our OFF Academy on March 7-8th, 2019 from 7am-3pm. Volunteers will assist with welcoming students and attendees, assist with registration process, welcome special guests, assist with event staging, set up and tear down of breakfast and lunch, record attendance and badge numbers during seminars, and have fun learning about the filmmaking process. Must be able to lift 20 pounds and stand for long periods of time. Volunteers will receive an event shirt and pass to the Omaha Film Festival running March 5th-10th, 2019 and meals while volunteering.
OFF Academy is a two-day filmmaking seminar for 8th-12th grade students that delves into numerous aspects of the filmmaking process - from producing and directing to screenwriting. Each morning is comprised of 90-minute breakout sessions and offer in-depth, hands-on education with each student choosing their own class to attend.. Our afternoon session is classroom style and offers open discussion and group work amongst the students.. Each session is taught by an expert in that area of filmmaking and uses multimedia to enhance the learning process. Students may choose from four different sessions offered and benefit from the constructive discussion and collaboration that comes from being seated at tables of four-to-five people. Teachers are encouraged to attend and participate in OFF Academy with their students as well. We encourage them to connect with other educators in attendance to further collaboration between schools.
Breakfast and lunch are provided for participants. The lunch hour is a "lunch and learn" experience where each group is paired with a visiting screenwriter or filmmaker to eat and further discuss topics the students are interested in exploring. In addition to the Academy, students may use their Academy badge to attend the six-day Omaha Film Festival and view narrative features, documentaries and short films. Here, students have further access to filmmakers and can interact with them during Q&A's directly after each film’s completion. During the weekend, students may attend the OFF Filmmaking Conference Panels and the Writers Theatre where screenplay finalists are performed for a live audience.

Mission Statement
The Omaha Film Festival celebrates the artistic, educational, and historical importance of motion pictures. It gives independent film artists a platform for sharing their work and creating a dialogue with the community. It introduces audiences to innovative new films and past masterworks of cinema. It promotes the discussion and study of filmmaking. It seeks to foster and present stories that stand out, that are told in the most creative ways; stories that are daring, courageous, risk-taking, and filled with discovery and wonder.
Description
The Omaha Film Festival (OFF) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 2005 as an avenue for the Omaha community to experience the artistry of independent filmmaking. More than a decade later, OFF is recognized by MovieMaker magazine as one of the "50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee."
Completely volunteer-run, the annual festival showcases more than 90 films selected from an average of more than 700 yearly entries. Submissions come in from around the world and include regional and world premier films as well as advanced screenings of films that have already attracted wider distribution. Narrative features, documentaries, short films, and animated shorts are screened during the week-long Festival with a special section for Nebraska-made films. The selected filmmakers are invited to attend the festival and are given the opportunity to discuss their films with the audience after each screening.
Over the last 12 years, the OFF has made great strides towards becoming one of the most accomplished teaching festivals in the Central United States. We are proud to offer opportunities for filmmakers, students, and those who value the artistry of film to learn more about the craft of filmmaking through panels, lectures, and workshops taught by seasoned professionals at our annual Filmmakers Conference.
