We are continuing this vital service during the current coronavirus/ Covid-19 emergency, taking additional safety precautions.
One volunteer per 4 hours shift supports our staff as they take water, sandwiches, blankets, clothing and personal supplies to people staying outside in and around Albany, NY. Joseph's House staff drive the van.
The van leaves the above address and runs from 2-6pm and 6-10pm 7 days a week, year-round.
Shifts are chosen on an online calendar: you do not need to have the same availability week-to-week.
Because we have limited numbers of shifts we are accepting only people who are interested in doing this on a long-term basis because of a concern for homelessness (unfortunately this means we are not currently accepting students doing service as part of their course.)
As we try to keep visitors to our buildings to a minimum at the time, prospective volunteers will be interviewed and oriented to the task over the phone. There are Confidentiality and Volunteer Agreements to sign before your first shift. Contact us for the short application form. Or visit our website.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
