CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

March for Science Southern Arizona seeks to add a Chief Financial Officer to its volunteer executive team. Our mission is to preserve and expand the critical role of science and evidence in our Southern Arizona community through community outreach and nonpartisan political advocacy. The Chief Financial Officer would be responsible for overseeing all financial activities for March for Science Southern Arizona, which would allow us to grow and expand to continue fulfilling our mission.

The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

Fundraising. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all fundraising initiatives. This includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Creating and executing multiple fundraising programs, which would include outreach to prospective donors and local business partners as well as online fundraising programs.
  • Creating and executing a donor and major gifts program.
  • Create receipts for donors as well as thank-you cards.
  • Creation and coordination of sponsorship packages for donors and local business partners.
  • Take a lead role in writing grants.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Financial Management. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing all financials of the organization. This includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Management of all bank accounts.
  • Creation of monthly financial reports.
  • Creation and management of an annual budget.
  • Take a lead role when filing annual taxes and writing annual reports.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must fully embrace and have the desire to advance the mission, objectives, and goals of the March for Science Southern Arizona,
  • Be willing to assist March for Science Southern Arizona on a volunteer basis at around 5-10 hours/week on average,
  • Have the knowledge and experience to effectively fundraise, write grants, and manage financial accounts,
  • Have some experience in a leadership position, as the March for Science Southern Arizona anticipates the incumbent to lead fundraising and financial teams in the future,
  • Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, and be able to seize opportunities when they arise,
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, and is persuasive and persistent,
  • Strong oral and writing skills,
  • Be able to work well in a team environment and attend all of the March for Science Southern Arizona meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in non-personal financial management and fundraising experience,
  • Have some experience in science advocacy,
  • Have some experience working in a non-profit environment.

March for Science Southern Arizona is a brand new nonprofit that is part of the March for Science network, and as such needs a Chief Financial Officer that will be instrumental in its growth and is passionate for our mission, objectives, and goals. The Chief Financial Officer is a volunteer-based position at this time, and would be great experience for someone who envisions themselves in a career related to science advocacy and community engagement.

We have multiple programs to achieve our goals. We have the annual Rally for Science, Brains and Brews, Spirit of Science, Science 101 Workshops, and Science Watchdogs.

We need a substantial number of volunteers (both permanent and temporary) to make this happen, and we'd love to have you join us!
