ORGANIZATION: CASA of Passaic and Union Counties

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 3 people are interested

More than 500 children are currently in the Passaic County foster care system. This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, help make a difference in their lives.

At Passaic County CASA's Service Hour for Children in Foster Care, you will learn about the child welfare system and how you can help children in foster care. Then, you will participate in a short service project assembling toiletry kits for children who have been abused and/or neglected and removed from home.
Sometimes children are removed from their homes with little-to-no notice, sometimes even in the middle of the night. These toiletry kits will give them the basics to get them settled in their new foster home.

Feel free to bring any travel sized toiletries you would like to donate and/or zippered toiletry pouches.

About CASA of Passaic and Union Counties

Mission Statement

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Passaic and Union Counties is an independent, non-profit organization that champions the best interests of children involved in the child welfare system. CASA volunteers serve as a child's advocate in court and are committed to ensuring that needed services and assistance are made available to children in need.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes.

That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child has an individual advocate to speak for them in court.

It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
