We’re looking to add members to our amazing Barn Leader team! The ideal candidate is a confident animal handler with strong leadership skills who is able to manage fast-paced shifts at the Little Barn.
A Barn Leader is able to multi-task and problem solve under pressure. It’s important they can delegate tasks to other volunteers during the shift. Their responsibilities include:
Running each shift by organizing all volunteers and animals.
Harnessing and sending out dogs for walks.
Coaching volunteers on animal notes, including temperaments and handling.
Directing Barn Leader Assistants with the cleaning and feeding checklist.
Coordinating each animal with a volunteer that can handle them.
Assisting with emergency situations when they arise.
Communicating updates to the ALIVE Rescue team.
You’ll need to complete 4-5 shifts of shadow training with current Barn Leaders where you’ll learn proper handling of animals, how to administer medications, the best cleaning practices, and more.
To apply for this position, we require that you’ve worked 20 full shifts as a Little Barn volunteer or Barn Leader Assistant.
Volunteer at least 2 full barn shifts per month.
Work with dogs of all behavioral levels.
Feel comfortable working with cats.
Have strong leadership skills, be able to multitask, and overcome obstacles.
