NECHAMA Volunteers!
Volunteers from NECHAMA cleaning out a flood affected home in Houston, TX.

South Carolina was devastated by Hurricane Florence in September of 2018. The damage caused by the flooding is extensive. We are set up in Horry County, hoping to repair the homes that were mucked and gutted from all the water and mold damage caused by the hurricane. We are now focusing on installing insulation and drywall to help families live in safe and sanitary conditions. No experience is necessary and we provide all of the tools and safety gear! We provide free accommodations, 3 meals/day on work days, and all the necessary support and logistics for you to have a positive and productive volunteer experience. We work 9am - 4pm, 5 days per week. Please know, you are responsible for funding your travel to and from the volunteer base. Check out our social medias, Instagram and Facebook, to stay up to date!

Mission Statement

NECHAMA is a volunteer organization dedicated to helping families, and communities prepare for, clean up and recover from natural disasters. Our home base is located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Twin Cities area. We respond to natural disasters nation-wide.

Description

NECHAMA (Hebrew for comfort) is the Jewish community's disaster response organization. Based in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, NECHAMA has deployed thousands of volunteers to help communities clean-up after floods, tornados, and other natural disasters.

Rooted in the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), NECHAMA offers help to all people regardless of religious affiliation. We do not ask "Who are you?" but rather "How can we help?" We work shoulder-to-shoulder with homeowners in urban and rural areas, generally providing help to the most vulnerable: the elderly, the poor, single parents, and people with disabilities or other health problems.
