Open Victim Impact Panel Volunteer Roles:

  • Multiple Victim/Survivor Speakers-Directly impacted by impaired driving (no prior speaking experience required)
  • Registration Support-Assist with administrative needs of the panel on the day of.
  • Secondary interpreter support (no experience required/fluency in Spanish required)
  • One Offender Speaker- Case included injury or death of another (case by case basis)
Purpose: Life is forever changed after an impaired driving crash. One way MADD focuses efforts on preventing the deaths, injuries, and devastation from occurring is to educate people about the consequences of impaired driving. Victim Impact Panels (VIPs) allow victims/survivors an opportunity to heal by sharing their personal stories of bereavement, injuries, and loss with an audience of participants. Victim impact panel volunteers play an important part in helping to reduce future victimizations through presenting effective VIPs which educate participants to the hazards of impaired driving and motivate participants to make responsible decisions about drinking and driving in the future. Victim impact panel volunteers assist in planning, organizing and implementation of victim impact panels for victims/survivors and attendees. Victim impact panel volunteers can volunteer for one or more special events; they may also work in conjunction with MADD staff.

Tasks/Responsibilities:

* Share how your life has been impacted by impaired driving, as a presenter.

* Interpret during the registration process to assist Spanish speakers throughout this process.

*Assist with VIP set-up which includes setting up tables and chairs for sign in, the panel, and for attendees; setting up sound and audio / visual equipment; creating directional signs.

* Assist with VIP check-in logistics which includes signing in participants, money order/credit card payment collection and procedures, photo identification check, legible handwriting for the creation of receipts / proof of attendance certificates, counting and reading skills, distributing evaluations and being able to answer questions on the VIP facility and procedures.

* Assist with execution of the VIP take-down logistics including collection evaluations and pens, cleaning VIP room, taking down tables and chairs, assisting security, speakers and attendees.

* Maintain accurate paperwork according to MADD and grant guidelines.

* Other administrative duties as assigned the day of the Victim Impact Panel.
