We are looking for an adult (18 and older) who has preferably had experience with art in the past and is able to volunteer at MTC in our art program at least one day a week (Monday - Friday). Responsibilities for this position would include: assisting in art classes, framing, organizing art room and supplies, assisting with set-up and break-down for art festivals (our big one is the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, March 2-3, which we will need help with all weekend, this is the only weekend festival that we need help with so far), and other various duties.

Interested parties must be 18 years or older and must be able to commit or be interested in a long term volunteer placement. Other skills needed would be the ability to lift boxes of art and help set up for art festivals, as well the strength to be on your feet most of the day. Strongly preferred would be past experience either teaching people with disabilities or art.

Mission Statement

"To empower people with disabilities to lead the lives they choose."

Description

As a private, not-for-profit organization, MacDonald Training Center, Inc. has been privileged to serve people with disabilities in the Tampa Bay area since 1955. The Center was founded through the efforts of J. Clifford MacDonald and a group of visionary parents, prominent civic leaders, and the Junior League of Tampa. Community involvement, volunteers and financial support enabled the Center to begin as one of the State's first pre- school programs for children with developmental disabilities. Over the years, it was recognized that persons with developmental and other disabilities required a broader scope of services. In response, the Center was one of the first organizations to develop employment services (1971) and supported living services (1988) as alternatives to sheltered workshops and traditional group homes. In 2002 we became the first organization in the State to close all of our group homes. All individuals that currently receive residential services from the Center live in their own homes or apartments...regardless of their service needs. We also provide day services which include life skills, job skills, job club, fine arts, fitness, computer skills, community based activities, transportation, and health services. We serve approximately 650 individuals with disabilities each year. The Center strives to meet the individual needs of each person served by providing a wide variety of service options and opportunities. We believe the people we serve are productive, contributing and valued members of our community.
