Volunteer With CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Camden County INC.

Next training begins in January 2020

Are you looking for an opportunity to give back to your community and help a child in need?

Each year, thousands of children in Camden County are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The child is then placed under the custody of Child Protective Services, which may place them in a foster home or other facility.

The CASA volunteer gathers information about the child's situation attends court proceedings. The Advocate makes a recommendation to the judge so that the judge has the information to make a decision about the child's future. The CASA volunteer advocates for the child to be placed in a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.

CASA volunteers are ordinary people who care about kids. CASA volunteers don't require any specific education. All they need is compassion, objectivity and a commitment to children.

Research has shown that children with CASA volunteers

  • Are half as likely to re-enter foster care

  • Are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care

  • Are more likely to be adopted

  • Have more services ordered for them

  • Are more likely to have a consistent, responsible adult presence

  • Spend less time in foster care

  • Do better in school

Volunteers qualifications

  • Be 21 or older.

  • Be able to dedicate time every month to visit the child.

  • Comfortable with visiting homes and going to court in Camden City.
