Mission Statement
Our mission is to develop the capacities of underserved families, increase access to resources and promote social equity. Our vision is to foster healthy, interdependent communities by recognizing and engaging people’s capacities.
Description
Aurora Community Connection (ACC) family resource center was founded in 2007 to address a gap in services for low-income families in North Aurora. ACC welcomes all families, but serves as an especially trusted community space for first- and second-generation Spanish-speaking immigrants, due to services and programs that are culturally-responsive by design, and build upon the community’s strengths and interests.
As a result of ongoing evaluation, ACC focuses on improving access to education and access to health for families who are marginalized by language and poverty. ACC’s education programs include: early childhood education, after school literacy instruction for children, a service learning program for teens, and parenting groups and English language classes for adults. ACC improves access to health through exercise and nutrition classes, chronic disease prevention classes, wellness programming, health fairs, health insurance application assistance (including Medicaid, CHP+ and C4HCO) and resource and referral services.
