Volunteers power the passion and progress of our cause. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN)
prides itself on a nationwide grassroots army, inspiring over one million people to take action and accelerate progress in the fight to end pancreatic cancer. With guidance from PanCAN staff, local affiliates are led by a volunteer leadership team that includes an Affiliate Chair, PurpleStride Chair, Mission Chair and November Awareness Chair. This leadership team engages other volunteers and community members through committees supporting the organization’s mission at the local level.

Position Summary

PurpleStride is the walk to end pancreatic cancer and is among the largest sources of funding for PanCAN
while raising awareness and creating a community among those affected by this disease. The Media Chair
plays a critical role in raising awareness and educating the public about PurpleStride and driving participation through earned media outreach efforts. The Media Chair also works to promote additional affiliate events throughout the year.

Responsibilities & Duties
* Partner with Affiliate Chair, PurpleStride Chair, and November Awareness Chair to determine organizational messages, facts and statistics.
o Coordinate outreach with other affiliate media chairs (if applicable).
* Act as an Affiliate Spokesperson when necessary.
* Secure local media coverage around PurpleStride utilizing PanCAN templates and resources.
* Secure local media sponsorships for PurpleStride.
* Secure local media sponsorships for November Awareness.
* Coordinate with other planning committee chairs. For example:
o Partner with Event Experience Chair to identify potential emcee opportunities
o Work with Logistics Chair to determine logistics of onsite media coverage

Expectations
* Complete and maintain Partnership Agreement with PurpleStride Chair.
* Access to a computer and the internet, as well as proficient computer skills.
* Respond to general inquiries within two business days.
* All volunteer committee positions are expected to regularly communicate with their local volunteer
leader, think holistically about referrals (patient, volunteer, donor, etc.) and demonstrate a commitment
to the PanCAN mission.

Qualifications/Skills
* Ability to respond to inquiries from local media in 24 hours
* Engaging presenter and public speaker
* Experience with public relations, journalism, advertising or marketing
* Professional demeanor
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Knowledge of community and media outlets
* Strong time management
* Commitment to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s mission
* Social media experience a plus
