Help kids develop novel solutions in food security and environmental sustainability! Join us Saturday, January 19 from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Carver Middle School , Atlantic Ave. and Barwick Rd. in Delray Beach WiseTribe is a Delray-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that brings together people of all backgrounds, ages, and communities to develop innovative solutions to pressing societal problems. We have many current projects in the above areas that need your mentorship, guidance, and expertise: FarmBot is a semi-autonomous backyard farming robot that maintains all the functions of a family-sized garden bed. Utilizing 3-axis CNC technology, FarmBot does everything from planting to watering to weeding - all but picking and eating! We need your expertise in programming, administering, and maintaining the two that we already have in the community, as well as constructing new ones around Palm Beach County! We’re working with the Garden Club from Carver Middle School to develop their school-based garden, as well as the first composting program in the Palm Beach County School District. We’re also working with students in their Robotics Club to develop a motor-driven automated composter! We’re also working with kids to develop more low-tech ways for people to produce food at home. These include Garden Gates, upcycled pallets and plastics that are used to create small-scale vertical gardens for homes and businesses. We have many other projects in the pipeline, and we need your creativity, ingenuity, and leadership! We’ll be holding quarterly workshops at Farmer’s Table restaurant in Boca Raton to connect, collaborate, brainstorm, and inform these and new ways that we can bring sustainable local and home-based gardening to South Florida and beyond. We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you to create a more secure and sustainable food future for our community!
