Volunteers needed to serve 1 time per month for a homework club pilot program for children grades 4th-12th. The homework club will be a supportive quiet place for kids to come to work on homework. It will include access to computers, calculators, school supplies, and volunteer assistance.

Where: Columbia Hills Apartments, 1000 S Frederick Street, Arlington, 22204

Day: Mondays

Shift Time: 3:45-6:15

Job Description

Volunteers will:

  • Provide supervision and assistance to kids who come to the homework room.
  • Engage kids, asking if they need assistance, encouraging their good work.
  • Utilize an established behavior system to ensure a peaceful environment conducive to studying.

Requirements:

  • All volunteers will be required to complete new APAH volunteer registration forms and to complete a criminal background check.
  • All volunteers are asked to serve a minimum of 1 day/month (more frequent service is welcomed)
  • Sign up Genius will be used to sign up for service.
  • All volunteers are required to attend and orientation session on January 31 st from 5 to 6 pm.
  • Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older
  • Preferred but not required: Spanish and language skills other than English

Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) is a private, nonprofit housing organization founded in 1989 dedicated to providing affordable rental homes in Arlington. We also provide educational, employment, financial and recreational programs for the adults and children living in APAH properties, as well as emergency rental assistance.
