At the Natural History Museum of Utah, live animals are a critical part of communicating the natural world to Museum guests. We need volunteers to keep safe and healthy the various creatures housed in the Museum, enabling guests to gain a better understanding of Utah’s natural environment. As a Creature Care volunteer, you will be able to ensure that healthy and happy animals are ready to serve as ambassadors to the natural world, and that guests of all ages can be delighted by and inspired to learn more about them. You'll gain valuable experience working live animals, and get specialized training to learn to handle animals safely.

Creature Care volunteer will be responsible for the care and feeding of the Museum’s wide array of live exhibits including snakes, lizards, frogs, insects and other arthropods and fish. They will collaborate with Museum staff to create and implement a daily schedule of animal husbandry and oversight. Duties include checking on and recording animal health and general condition, enclosure temperature and humidity, and other conditions according to animal care protocols; feeding and watering animals; keeping enclosures clean and glass surfaces clear for visitor viewing; and doing some animal food preparation. This will be a fun and exciting position for those who enjoy working with interesting animals.
