Come join us at The March to 20Hundred Thousand Books: A Children's March for Literacy! We are uniting Atlanta communities and children to join us and take to the streets to shed light on the epidemic of illiteracy and its proximal side effects on our society, all while empowering children to reclaim their narratives, tell their own stories and get excited about reading.
At the end of The March we will be planting 3 fully stocked Little Free Libraries and dedicating them to the community.
Volunteer Areas
- GREETING/CHECK-IN/REGISTRATION
- Volunteers will be needed to help get people checked in when they arrive and make sure that participants get their March Wrist Bands and March Bags.
- SETUP/BREAKDOWN
- We need able-bodied volunteers to arrive at 7:00 AM and help set up tables and signs.
- We need able-bodied volunteers to help with breakdown when The March concludes.
- DONATION STATION
- Volunteers will receive book donations from March participants and stamp kids’ Mission Maps when they donate a book.
- ACTIVITY AREA
- We need volunteers to work our Activity Area and help keep kids moving from one Activity to the next. As kids complete an Activity, volunteers will need to stamp the kids’ Mission Maps.
- The Sign-Making Station will likely be the busiest station as all kids will be encouraged to make a sign to carry in The March. Volunteers will need to help kids get their signs completed.
- WAYFINDERS
- We need volunteers to help direct people on the premises during The March. These volunteers will be floaters who roam about their assigned zones ensuring that participants can find their way around.
- DEDICATION CEREMONY TEAM
- We need volunteers to be in position at the physical end of The March to make sure everything is in place for the big reveal and the dedication of the Little Free Libraries. These volunteers will man the crowd and position people for the ceremony.
- HYPE PEOPLE/SIGN BEARERS
- We need volunteers with big personalities to help generate excitement among the crowd.

Mission Statement
Our Mission is to help Families build strong reading rituals and get kids excited about books!
Description
Atlanta Leadership Club partner Empowered Readers Literacy Project is a non-profit dreamed up by a 5-year-old little girl who set out to tackle illiteracy by helping families build strong reading rituals and by getting kids excited about reading.
We are helping kids and families change the focus of reading by engaging them in imaginative Adventures and tapping into their creativity. We believe that books with diverse, engaging content shared in connection with real human interaction will get kids excited about reading on their own and with their families.
