Child Care Action Council

The mission of Child Care Action Council is to promote and nurture early learning communities where children and families thrive.

Our BlockFest program is an interactive exhibit for individuals and groups, providing young children under the age of eight a rich, hands-on math and science learning experience. BlockFest is an event-based program that offers a flexible volunteer schedule.

Our next BlockFest event is scheduled for Wednesday May 29 from 5-7 pm at Robert Gray Elementary!

Purpose: To assist the BlockFest Coordinator in running successful STEAM learning events in schools and the community.

Responsibilities: Facilitate fun and engaging block station play activity with children and their parents. Assist the coordinator in set-up and take down.

Required Skills: Experience and enthusiasm for engaging with young children and their parents. Must be considerate of diverse family cultural backgrounds, and have an ability to pass a criminal background check. Should be able to lift 30 pounds, bend, and sit with children on the floor.

Preferred Skills: Knowledge and experience in education or STEM learning. A degree in education or currently a student in the field. Ability to speak Spanish a plus!

Time: Wednesday, May 29, 4-7 p.m.

Site: Robert Gray Elementary School.

Supervision: Volunteers will be supervised by the BlockFest Coordinator and report to the Family Services Development Associate.

Benefits: Volunteers have the opportunity to gain skills and experience in a unique setting, to learn about child development, early learning, and to have fun while playing with children. Ongoing volunteers have the chance to attend one of our professional development classes when space is available.
